Jung Woo-ram makes his first and last ‘start’ in 1,500th game

Jung Woo-ram (39, Hanwha Eagles), one of the most dominant bullpen pitchers in the Korean Professional Baseball Organization, will end his career as a ‘starter’.

Hanwha has decided to use Jung as the starting pitcher for the team’s final game of the year against the NC Dinos at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Sept. 29.

This will be Jung’s retirement ceremony.

Hanwha gave him the opportunity to start on the day he turned in his uniform.

Although his “official record” is as a starter, he will likely only face one batter before leaving the mound.

Jung has appeared in 1,400 games, the most by a KBO pitcher and the most by an Asian pitcher in a single league.

He has a career record of 977⅓ innings, 64 wins, 47 losses, 197 saves, 145 holds, and a 3.18 ERA.

Jung started all 14 games in relief.

However, he will start his final game.

Jung began his professional career in 2004 when he was drafted by the SK Wyverns (now the SSG Landers) with the 11th overall pick in the second round of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) draft.

After becoming a free agent ahead of the 2016 season, he took to the mound in a Hanwha uniform.

Excluding the 2013-2014 season, when he served in the military, Jung played 18 seasons in the first team until last year.

In 15 of his 18 seasons in the first team, he appeared in more than 50 games, showing off his ‘iron will’.

On October 2 last year, he became the first KBO pitcher to reach the 1,000-game milestone against the Daejeon NC Dinos.

On October 15, 2023, against the Daejeon Lotte Giants, he set a new Asian record for the most games played by a pitcher in a single league (1,300).

After accepting the club’s offer to become a pitching coach after the end of last season, Jeong did not pitch for the first team this season and focused on coaching the younger players as a reserve pitching coach, and recently decided to retire.

Jeong, who has been focusing on his coaching career while putting aside his personal desires, wanted to say goodbye to the field on the mound, and he got his wish.

Jeong will throw out the final ball in his 1,500th game on the 29th. 메이저사이트
