‘General Hwang Mungi-General Sejingya Mungun’ K League 1 Gangwon draws 1-1 with Daegu

‘National fullback’ Hwang Mungi-Ki scored a fantastic free-kick goal but Daegu FC ace Sejingya equalized for Gangwon FC in a 1-1 draw.

Gangwon drew 1-1 at home against Daegu FC in the 32nd round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Gangneung Sports Complex in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Monday.

Gangwon’s ‘winless streak’, which began on March 18 against Gwangju FC (3-2), extended to five matches (two draws and three losses).

With 15 wins, seven draws and 10 losses, Gangwon (52 points) is now six points adrift of leaders Ulsan HD (17 wins, seven draws and eight losses – 58 points), who defeated Daejeon Hana Citizen the previous day in this round.

With their 11th draw of the season, Daegu (W8 D13 L35) moved to within three points of bottom-placed Incheon United (W32 L32), who are directly relegated to the second division.

In the first half, neither team was able to break the opponent’s defensive block and create any shots on goal.

Yang Min-hyuk and Hwang Moon-ki, who were selected to the national team during the A-Match in September, combined to attack Daegu’s left flank, but were unable to create much of an opportunity as the Daegu defense was clustered in the penalty area.

Coach Yoon Jung-hwan made a change in the second half, moving Yang Min-hyuk to the center of the second line, but Gangwon was unable to record a shot on target as Daegu maintained its defensive organization until midway through the second half.

It was Hwang Mungi-Ki’s ‘one shot’ that changed the frustrating game.

In the 24th minute of the second half, Hwang Mungi’s right-footed free kick from halfway between the penalty spot and the center line was a picture-perfect trajectory that found the top right corner of Daegu’s goal.

For Daegu, ace Sejingya was the answer.

In the 29th minute, on a counterattack, he finished off a right-footed cross from Hwang Jae-won with a volley that beat goalkeeper Lee Kwang-yeon to open the Kangwon goal.

It was the 10th goal of the season for Sejingya, who has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches.

National team coach Hong Myung-bo visited Gangneung Sports Complex to check the physical condition and performance of the players of both teams.

Hong, who is preparing for the third Asian qualifier for the 2026 North and Central America World Cup in October, will hold a press conference at the Jongno-gu Football Hall in Seoul on Oct. 30 to announce the roster.

At Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonbuk Hyundai earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Jeju United thanks to a theatrical goal from Jeon Jin-woo in second-half stoppage time.

With the win, Jeonbuk (37 points) extended its unbeaten streak to six matches (four wins and two draws) and moved up two spots to ninth place to stay out of the relegation zone (10th-12th) and move within one point of eighth-place Jeju (38 points).

After a scoreless first half, Jeonbuk took the lead in the 14th minute of the second half when Kim Jin-kyu scored with a right-footed shot from the front of the goal area after a pass from Lee Seung-woo.

Jeju equalized in the 38th minute when Yuri Jonatan was awarded a penalty kick after a ball contest with Jeonbuk defender Park Jin-seob on the left side of the penalty area, and Yuri stepped up to take the spot kick himself in the 40th minute to tie the game.

However, Jeonbuk scored a dramatic winner in the final minute of stoppage time when Jeon Jin-woo headed home a cross from the left side of the penalty area by Lee Young-jae from the front of the goal area to hold off Jeju’s late charge and secure a valuable three points.

At the Gimcheon Sports Complex, Gimcheon Commerce defeated Gwangju FC 2-0.

With their third straight victory, Gimcheon (56 points) closed the gap on leaders Ulsan HD (58 points) to two points.

Meanwhile, Gwangju, who failed to advance to Final A, suffered their second straight defeat and remain in seventh place with 40 points, two points ahead of eighth-place Jeju.

After a scoreless first half, Gimcheon opened the scoring two minutes into the second half with a powerful right-footed strike from Mo Jae-hyun, who rushed in from the right side of the penalty area, before Lee Dong-kyung added a second goal in the 28th minute to put Gwangju away. 토토사이트
