Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Government) and his League of Legends (LoL) team were the stars of the 2023 Mid-Autumn Festival. Kim won the men’s swimming management 400m freestyle final at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 in 3 minutes, 44.36 seconds on 29 September at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre swimming pool in Hangzhou, China .Kim, who also swept the men’s 800m medley relay and 800m freestyle, became only the third South Korean swimmer to win a single Asian Games triple, joining former Vice Minister of Culture Choi Yun-hee (New Delhi 1982) and Park Tae-hwan (Doha 2006-Guangzhou 2010).He also became the first Korean swimmer to win a triple at the Games. Kim Woo-min fell just short of his quadruple goal with a silver in the 1,500 metres, but won his main events, the 400 and 800 metres freestyle, in dominant fashion to cement his status as one of Asia’s strongest middle and long-distance swimmers .Lee Ju-ho (Seogwipo City Hall) won silver in the men’s 200m backstroke with a new Korean record (1:56.54), while Choi Dong-yeol (Gangwon Provincial Office) took bronze in the men’s 50m breaststroke with a new Korean record (26.93).The LoL team also claimed a historic gold medal. The national LoL team defeated Chinese Taipei 2-0 in the best-of-three LoL final at the Hangzhou Esports Centre to win the title outright .The South Korean gaming emperors were crowned champions of LoL, the most popular game at the tournament, which marked the first time esports was an official sport .Playing mid laner in the final, as they did in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, instead of captain Lee “Faker” Sang-hyuk (27-T1), the LoL squad featured Chobi “Chobi” Jeong-hoon (22-Zenji), who seized the initiative in the middle of a hard-fought second set and backed Chinese Taipei into a corner to claim the gold medal .Korean eSports took home two gold medals for Street Fighter V’s Kim “Kwan-woo” Kim and Team LoL, and a bronze for FC Online’s Kwak “Jun-hyuk” Kwak (KT Rolster).Fencer Yoon Ji-soo’s bid for a double was denied. The women’s sabre team of Yoon Ji-su, Hong Ha-eun (Seoul Metropolitan Government), Jeon Eun-hye (Incheon Jung-gu Office) and Choi Se-bin (Jeonnam Province) lost 42-45 to Japan in the semi-finals of the team event on 29 September. In Asian Games fencing, both individual and team semi-final losers are awarded a joint bronze medal .Yoon Ji-soo, who won the individual sabre title, was unable to fulfil her dream of winning a double after a poor performance in the ninth round of the team event. South Korea were aiming for a third consecutive team title in the women’s sabre, following Incheon 2014 and Jakarta-Palembang 2018, but were unable to overcome Japan, led by Misaki Emura, who won her second consecutive individual title at the World Championships .Kwon Young-joon (Iksan City Hall), Kim Jae-won (Chungbuk Fencing Association), Ma Se-gun (Busan Metropolitan City Hall) and Son Tae-jin (Sejong City Sports Council) had to settle for bronze in the men’s epee team semi-final, losing 34-45 to Japan .With six gold, three silver and three bronze medals, Korean fencing has won four consecutive overall titles since Guangzhou 2010 and has cemented its position as a ‘filial’ sport. The shooting team of Kim Jong-hyun (38), Kim Sang-do (36-over KT) and Mo Dae-sung (29-Changwon City Hall) combined to shoot 1,748 points in the men’s 50 metres rifle three-position team event to share the bronze medal behind India and China .Korean sepaktakraw won its second consecutive silver medal after losing 0-2 to Thailand in the women’s regu team final. South Korea’s women’s squash team also made it meaningful, winning their first bronze medal in nine years after losing 0-2 to Malaysia in the semi-finals.Women’s artistic gymnast Im Soo-min (Gyeonggi Chego) added a valuable bronze medal in the floor exercise final, while Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Shin Jae-hwan (Jecheon City Hall) was relegated to fourth place after a big mistake in the vault final. Cyclists Shin Dong-in (Kangjin Guncheong) and Kim Yuro (Korea Land Information Corporation) scored 54 points in the track men’s madison final to tie with Japan, but fell behind the Japanese in the final kilometre to settle for silver .The table tennis mixed doubles pairs of Lim Jong-hoon (Korea Exchange) and Shin Yubin (Korean Air) and Jang Woo-jin and Jeon Jeon-hee (Mirae Asset Securities) had to settle for bronze after being blocked by the ‘Great Wall ‘.In the first ever inter-Korean clash in team ball games at the Games, the women’s basketball team came from behind to beat North Korea 81-62 and book their place in the quarter-finals.S outh Korea won 26 gold, 27 silver and 46 bronze medals, but fell behind Japan in the number 바카라사이트 of silver medals, losing the second place it had held for five days and slipping to third.
