Lim Do-heon’s team is in desperate need of a restoration of honor, leaving for Iran, the venue for the championship showdown
The men’s volleyball team, led by head coach Lim Do-heon, is seeking to restore its honor at the Asian Championships.
The national team will leave for Urmia, Iran, the venue of the 2023 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship, via Incheon International Airport on the 16th. The competition will be held from the 19th to the 26th.
A total of 14 players were listed on the roster. Hwang Seung-bin (KB Insurance) and Hwang Taek-ui (National Military Sports Unit) will lead the setter, while Park Kyung-min (Hyundai Capital) and Lee Sang-wook (Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance) will be in charge of the libero position. Kim Kyu-min (Korean Air), Lee Sang-hyun (Woori Card), and Kim Min-jae (Korean Air) were selected as the middle blockers.
A total of five players will be in charge of the outside heater, including Na Kyung-bok (Ministry of National Defense), Jung Ji-seok (Korean Air), Jeong Han-yong (Korean Air), Lim Sung-jin (Korea Electric Power Corporation), and Jeon Kwang-in (Hyundai Capital). Heo Soo-bong (Hyundai Capital) and Lim Dong-hyuk (Korean Air) are in charge of the Apogit Spiker.

The national team was frustrated at the threshold of the 2023 Asian Volleyball Federation (AVC) Challenger Cup final held last month. In the semifinals, he was completely defeated by Bahrain, ranked 77th in the world, failing to advance to the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) for the first time in six years.
Recently, the national team has boldly changed its generation by excluding top setter Han (Korean Air) and veteran middle blocker Shin Young-seok (Korea Electric Power Corporation). However, the AVC Challenger Cup reduced the lack of experience.
This time, Han and Shin Young-seok were not called, but many experienced players joined. Instead of young players such as Kim Myung-kwan, Park Joon-hyuk, Oh Jae-sung, Cho Jae-young, and Hwang Kyung-min, Hwang Seung-bin, Na Kyung-bok, Lee Sang-wook, Kim Kyu-min, and Jeon Kwang-in will join hands and feet anew.
The national team gathered at Jincheon National Training Center in North Chungcheong Province from the middle of last month and began full-fledged training for about four weeks. After completing all preparations, he will head to Urmia, Iran, the venue of the showdown.
