Who is the first middle blocker to reach 4,000 points, is looking further away.

Shin Young-seok played against the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Men’s OK Financial Group at Sangnoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on the 21st and scored eight points, including five blocks.

Having scored 3,993 points in total before the game, he has finally surpassed 4,000 points. This is the eighth time in the history of the V-League.

His 4,000 points is more meaningful because he is the first player to score as a middle blocker. The previous seven were all wing strikers.

“Actually, I didn’t even know that I had scored 3,000 points. I was surprised that I had scored 4,000 points,” Shin said with a shy smile.

It’s not something I was conscious of, but it certainly has a valuable meaning. “I heard it’s the first record as a center blocker. I’m thinking a lot lately about setting a lot of records as my retirement is just around the corner,” Shin said. “Getting 4,000 points seems to me because it shows what I’ve been doing.”

“Since I scored 4,000 points, I think I can score 5,000 points. I think I have to do it for five more years. I will try my best to score up to 5,000 points,” he said with a smile.

Shin, who wore No. 22 last season, changed his jersey number to No. 23 this season. 22 and 23 refer to years. He will change his jersey number to No. 24 next season.

When asked how many times his uniform number would continue after the relevant year, Shin said with a smile, “My goal is up to 30 times.” He thus expressed his strong desire to play as a player by 2030.

“Coach Kwon Young-min tells me to try until the age of 45, as he will take good care of my physical condition. In fact, people call it an aging curve (a phenomenon in which players deteriorate with age) every season. I think those words give me more stimulation and make me less tired,” Shin said. “I want to set more records in the future.”

Shin Young-seok also boasts of being the No. 1 player in men’s category with 1,191 blocked shots. Yang Hyo-jin (Hyundai Engineering & Construction), who is making 1,504 shots in women’s category, is keeping the top spot.

“I think Yang Hyo-jin has a history of blocking Korean volleyball. I’m grateful to be in the same era as such a historic player,” Shin said. “There are only 1,200 left. I want to do better than Yang Hyo-jin. But there is a gap of 300. I hope Yang does it for a long time.” 안전놀이터
