The World Series of Poker Circuit concludes its 14th season at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, North Carolina

The three-day tournament is scheduled for 7-9 August 2018. This will be the fourth consecutive year Harrah’s Cherokee will play host to the prestigious season-ending event. The tournament will feature a minimum $1 million guaranteed prize pool and award the winner a WSOP gold bracelet.

The Global Casino Championship (previously known as the National Championship) is set to take place in the middle of the Harrah’s Cherokee August Circuit series, which officially kicks off the 2018-19 WSOP Circuit season. The series is scheduled to start Thursday, 2 August and run through Monday, 13 August. The series will feature a $1,675 Main Event and a High Roller tournament.

The Global Casino Championship is the culminating event to the 2017-2018 Circuit season. It will include up to 128 automatic qualifiers. Of the potential 128 automatic qualifiers, up to 102 players will have qualified on the domestic tour and up to 26 on the International tour.

“Harrah’s Cherokee is excited to continue to be a part of this summer tradition,” said Regional Vice President and General Manager Brooks Robinson. “The Global Casino Championship is a truly special event for us to welcome players from around the country as well as from around the world!”

For both the domestic and International WSOP Circuit, the Main Event winner at each stop of the 2017-2018 season receives a free entry, as does the Casino Champion at each stop. In addition, the top 50 players on the seasonlong leader board for the domestic WSOP Circuit earn an automatic entry. Last season, the bubble for earning a season-long automatic entry was 147.5 points. It is expected to be higher this season since there are four more stops on the domestic Circuit than last season.

The standings of the season-long point’s race can be found on the Circuit leaderboard.

The last chance to earn points toward qualifying for the 2018 Global Casino Championship is at the Harrah’s New Orleans stop in May. Any stop after that, including the Harrah’s Cherokee August Circuit, will award points to the 2019 Global Casino Championship.

All players who have earned an automatic entry will receive a $500 travel stipend and three nights at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, plus one additional night for anyone making the final table or for international participants.

The top 100 players in the WSOP Player of the Year rankings from 2017 also have the opportunity to buy into the Global Casino Championship directly for $10,000. The rankings are compiled based on players’ performance in WSOP gold bracelet events in 2017. Those eligible can be found online.

For the third consecutive year, any player who won an official gold ring event on the WSOP Circuit this season also has the option to buy in to the Global Casino Championship directly for $10,000. For all players who buy their seats, the $10,000 is added directly to the prize pool (rake-free), in addition to the $1,000,000 put up by WSOP.

Players looking to earn a seat to the 2018 Global Casino Championship still have plenty of time to do so. The domestic WSOP Circuit still has seven full stops remaining in the 2017-18 season. The stops left include Atlantic City, Tulsa, Planet Hollywood, Omaha/Council Bluffs, Cherokee, Baltimore and New Orleans. The International Circuit stops remaining on this season’s schedule include Czech Republic, France, Italy and Russia.

The three-day 2018 WSOP Global Casino Championship No-Limit Hold’em tournament will get underway at noon on Tuesday, 7 August in the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Event Center with all eligible players.

“Ten years ago we only had 12 Circuit stops and they were all in the U.S. We’re proud to have grown it to 39 stops in 11 different countries, and the Global Casino Championship at Harrah’s Cherokee exists to put the best of the best in the same room to see who comes out on top,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “We’ll continue to work hard to make the World Series of Poker the biggest and best poker tournaments to play all around the world.”
