The Korean Olympic Committee held a ceremony to decide the South Korean team for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul on the 9th.
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, Minister Yoo In-chon of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Deputy Minister Jang Mi-ran, Chairman Jeon Jae-soo of the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Chairman Lee Ki-heung of the Korean Sports Council, and Head of the Korean Athletes’ Association Chung Kang-sun attended the event to reflect on the meaning of the Paris Olympics, which are just around the corner, and encourage national athletes.
In his congratulatory speech, Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said, “I sincerely congratulate you on your strong start to the Paris Olympics,” and added, “I am proud of your determined and dashing appearance.” He continued, “I applaud the enthusiasm and determination of the national athletes who have completed their hard training and are challenging for the best in the world.”
“The Republic of Korea has been promoting national prestige and demonstrating the spirit of the Korean people with strong mentality and outstanding performance in the Olympics,” Han said. “Your time is coming. Our people will cheer for all the athletes, and the government will do its best to support them.”
“This Paris Olympics is a new stage for Korea’s elite sports,” said Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the sports association. “Although there will be various difficulties such as heat, food, and judgment issues, I hope that the athletes will generously demonstrate their capabilities and efforts accumulated over a long period of time and achieve their goals fairly.”
After the decision ceremony, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yoo In-chon prepared a letter of encouragement to all athletes and leaders participating in the Paris Olympics and delivered it to the team’s representatives, Gu Bon-gil, fencing, and Kim So-young, badminton.
The national team, which graced the decision, realized the weight of the Taegeuk mark by wearing a 碧 blue “belted suit set-up” uniform produced by Musinsa’s casual wear brand Musinsa Standard.
The Paris Summer Olympics, which marks its 33rd anniversary this year, will open with a march on the Seine River on the 26th (local time) and conclude the war on the 11th of next month. 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world will compete for medals in 329 detailed events in 32 sports.
A total of 262 athletes, including 144 athletes and 118 leaders in 22 sports, will be dispatched to the Korean team. Compared to 30 days before the opening of the Paris Olympics, three additional athletes won the 20km track and field men’s triple jump and horse riding magic, one more event and three more athletes.
However, the number of athletes is the lowest in 48 years since the 1976 Montreal Olympics due to group slump in ball games. Korea’s goal is to win at least five gold medals and rank within the top 15 in the overall rankings.
After the decision ceremony, the Korean team will board a flight to Paris one after another starting next week according to the event schedule. Starting with the departure of the badminton, shooting and boxing teams on the 12th, the main team of the team, including representatives of fencing and table tennis, will board a flight to Paris on the 20th.안전토토사이트
However, as the Paris Olympic Village will be able to officially enter the village on the 18th, the team that arrived before then will begin training to adjust to the time difference and atmosphere at the “Team Korea Paris Platform,” a pre-training camp organized by the Korean Olympic Committee for the first time in 12 years since the 2012 London Olympics.
Team Korea’s Paris platform refers to the Korean team’s pre-training camp and meal support center at Camp Günemer, the National Defense Sports Center (CNSD) located in Fontainebleau, near Paris. The site, which is a military facility, has facilities including indoor swimming, track and field, outdoor track and field, restaurants and kitchens, general support facilities and 194 rooms.
