Nigerian senior’s desperate cry for former teammate Kim Min-jae

John Obi Mikel is desperate for Victor Osimhen to come to Chelsea. Mikel is a senior member of the Nigerian national team.

“I will help Osimhen to come to Chelsea,” Mikel said on his podcast. Mikel is a midfielder who played for Chelsea for 11 years, starting in 2006. Although he was criticized for his ambiguity, he had a long and storied career with the Blues. He won two Premier League (PL) titles, a UEFA Champions League (UCL) title, a UEFA Europa League (UEL) title, and four English FA Cups.

The reason Osimhen wants to move to Chelsea has a lot to do with Chelsea’s striker problems. With the exception of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, most of their strikers have performed poorly. This is why they are known as the graveyard of strikers. Hernan Crespo, Andrei Sheuchenko, Fernando Torres, Alvaro Morata, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz are just a few examples.

This summer, we added Nicola Jackson. Expectations were high and he was labeled the next Drogba after his solid performances at Villarreal. When the lid was lifted, he embarrassed those who called him the next Drogba. The hat-trick came against a Tottenham Hotspur side that had scored six goals but was missing two. Before that, he was criticized for wasting numerous chances. In addition to his poor goalscoring record, he was also criticized for his lack of impact.

Armando Broja, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, and Cole Palmer are available up front, but their limitations are clear. N’Kunku, for example, is injury-prone and full of uncertainty. There is talk of Chelsea spending big on a striker in the winter transfer window. Brentford’s Ivan Toney is a target, but he’s been suspended for gambling and hasn’t played in a while.

Osimhen is an attractive target. Nigerian striker Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020. He became Napoli’s highest transfer fee in history at €75 million. He scored 10 goals in the Italian Serie A in his debut season with Napoli and 14 last season. Despite his scoring prowess, he missed a lot of games due to injury, so he didn’t score as many goals as expected.

Last season was different. His injuries were noticeably less frequent and his scoring exploded, with 26 goals in 32 league games. Behind Osimhen’s performance, Napoli won the Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years. Osimhen swept the individual awards, including top scorer, Serie A team of the year, and striker of the year. He quickly emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe, attracting interest from a number of clubs, but owner Aurelio De Laurentiis had no intention of selling him.

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Chelsea, and others were interested, but the Napoli president rejected them, demanding an exorbitant transfer fee. Nevertheless, interest in Osimhen continued. Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal were also interested, but the player remained at Napoli over the objections of De Laurentiis. Even after Luciano Spalletti’s departure and Kim Min-jae’s move to Bayern Munich, Napoli looked strong with Osimhen at the helm.

Osimhen is still playing, but Napoli is not the Napoli of last season. With the team itself faltering, a TikTok incident in which Napoli’s official social media account mocked Osimhen further shattered trust. Osimhen has not yet signed a new contract with Napoli. Osimhen’s contract with Napoli ends in 2025. In order to get a transfer fee, the club will have to sell him in the next summer transfer window. Given the current situation, it’s possible that they could sell him in the upcoming winter transfer window. If Osimhen is on the market, teams in need of a striker will be all over him.

Chelsea are monitoring the situation. According to Nasser Kinsella of the Evening Standard, “Osimhen is Chelsea’s number one target. Osimhen has said he idolizes Chelsea legend Drogba and prefers to play in the PL. Napoli will want more than £100 million for Osimhen. They are unlikely to sell in the winter transfer window. Chelsea are willing to wait for Osimhen until next summer.”

In this situation, Mikel turns to Osimhen and says, “I believe you will come to Chelsea next season. I will act as your agent to broker the transfer. I will help you 스포츠토토 move to Chelsea. After Drogba’s departure, Chelsea were looking for a striker like Osimhen. Chelsea are desperate for a goal scorer. Osimhen fits the bill. Saudi Arabia can go further into the future. I hope he plays for Chelsea for three or four years.”

“I love living in London (where Chelsea is based), except for the weather. The people at Chelsea, the fans, the training ground, the stadium, everything would be great.” Mikel’s words echoed the sentiments of Chelsea fans and the club.
