LG ends losing streak; KT wins four straight

The LG Twins, who have been struggling of late, snapped a three-game losing streak with a hard-fought victory.

Park Hae-min hit a dramatic walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give LG a 3-2 victory over the Doosan Bears in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Wednesday.

With the win, LG snapped a three-game losing streak and continued its charge toward a direct ticket to the Korean Series.

Moon Sung-joo then flied out to left field, but two batters later, Park Hae-min came up to bat and hit a celestial single to left field to bring in the winning run.

Riding a fearsome second-half surge, second-place KT WIZ defeated the Samsung Lions 6-4 at home in Suwon, led by home runs from Anthony Alford and Byung-ho Park.

In Incheon, where Kim Kwang-hyun and Ahn Woo-jin faced off on the mound, the Kiwoom Heroes scored six runs in the top of the 12th inning of a 2-2 tie to beat the SSG Landers 8-3.

Last-place Kiwoom snapped a three-game losing streak, while third-place SSG, who have a long road ahead of them, had their three-game winning streak halted.

SSG scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jeon Eui-san.

Kiwoom fought back in the top of the sixth inning, putting runners on first and second with Dawson’s single and Kim Hwijip’s double, before Lee Ju-hyung’s sacrifice fly and Lee Hyung-jong’s RBI single made it 2-1.

However, SSG tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Choi Jung hit a huge solo home run to left field.

The game went to extra innings.

With the bases loaded, Kim Hui-jip hit a two-run double to left-center to give Kiwoom a 4-2 lead.

One inning later, Lee Hyung-jong doubled and the next batter, Song Sung-moon, hit a two-run homer to right to make it 8-2.

SSG managed to get one run back in the bottom of the 12th on a solo home run by Park Sung-yi.

SSG’s Kim Kwang-hyun struck out five and allowed two runs on six hits until the seventh inning, while Kiwoom’s An Woo-jin gave up one run on five hits with three strikeouts until the sixth inning, but neither team was able to record a win.

In a matchup of losing teams, the Lotte Giants defeated the Hanwha Eagles 5-2.

Seventh-ranked Lotte snapped a seven-game losing streak, while ninth-ranked Hanwha was unable to break out of a seven-game losing streak.

Lotte scored the first three runs in the top of the third inning as Jeon Jun-woo hit a two-run triple on an error.

Hanwha responded with two runs of their own in the fifth, capitalizing on two Lotte errors after an offensive shift.

After Park Chan-ho led off with a walk and stole second, Kim Do-young followed with a single to right-center field.

In the next inning, Choi Hyung-woo, Socrates Brito, Kim Sun-bin, Kim Tae-gun, and Byun Woo-hyuk combined for five consecutive hits to score three runs and take a 5-3 lead.

Two innings later, Park Chan-ho hit a two-run double to make it 7-3.

After a solo home run by Na Sung-bum in the fourth inning, KIA added two more runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run double by Na to make it 10-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, they added three more runs on an error.

Pedi, the best pitcher of the season, suffered the yoke of defeat with his worst outing of the season, giving up seven runs on eight hits and three walks in three innings.
