19-year-old national team member Moon Dong-ju (Hanwha) will start the opening game of the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) 2023. South Korea will face Australia in the first round of the preliminary round at Tokyo Dome in Japan on the 16th.
Ryu Joong-il, head coach of the national team, said in an official press conference on the 15th, “Moon Dong-ju is in the best condition, so he will be the first to take the mound as a starter,” adding, “I hope you throw well as in the Asian Games.” Coach Ryu said, “Moon Dong-ju’s main weapon is a big curve of fastballs and dropouts,” adding, “We will have to beat Australia to reach the final.”
In the final of the Hangzhou Asian Games held last month, Moon Dong-ju took seven strikeouts in six innings and blocked Taiwan’s batters with three hits, leading South Korea to its fourth consecutive victory.
In this year’s professional baseball regular league, Moon played in 23 games, leaving him with eight wins and eight losses and an ERA of 3.72.
