Ham Jung-woo (29) is trying to win the grand prize for the first time since his debut on the Korean PGA Tour.
In the second round of the KPGA Korean Tour LG SIGNATURE Players Championship (total prize money of 1.3 billion won) held at Seowon Valley Country Club (par 71) in Paju, Gyeonggi Province on the 10th, Ham Jung-woo tied three birdies and two bogeys to score a 1-under 70.
He also added one birdie in the remaining holes of the first round (holes 16-18), and tied for third place with a median total of 4-under 138.
Ham Jung-woo, who is leading the Genesis Grand Prize, can determine the grand prize on his own even if he scores more than third place alone in the competition. Ham Jung-woo, who debuted on the Korean Tour in 2018 and won the Rookie of the Year award, has not won an individual title since then. It’s my first time to win the grand prize.
It is a special opportunity for Ham as it is his first time. In order to protect the Genesis Grand Prize, Ham Jung-woo also consistently ranked in the top five, tying for third at the Baeksong Holdings-Asiad CC Busan Open in October and tied for fifth at the Golf Zone-Doray Open in November.
Even in the midst of heavy rain and cold, Ham Jung-woo is biting his teeth to achieve the Genesis Grand Prize. He is cruising under par throughout the first and second rounds.
After the second round, he said, “I played the remaining games, and it was hard because the weather was cold. The wind was also strong, and I’m satisfied with making an under par in this weather. I think I did a good job,” he said.
“The original personality itself is optimistic. Until now, I thought, “It’s something that can be done and it can’t be done,” but I’m really nervous. The more the tournament was held from the second half of the season, the more tense it was. In the first round of this tournament, I was really scared. The competitors are also concerned. However, I will do my best as my goal is to win the grand prize with a satisfactory performance.”
“The ball doesn’t hit me as well as ever. But I’m desperate. As a result, I think heaven is helping me,” if Ham Jung-woo wins, he can even win the prize money king.
“I want to bring both the grand prize and the prize money king. Among the perks for the grand prize, I will try if I qualify for the final round of the PGA Tour Q School.”
